Questions

What’s an adjustment note?

When you’re registered for GST and a sale changes after the tax invoice, for a refund, return or discount, the ATO calls the credit note an adjustment note. It shows your name and ABN, the date, the reason, the amount and its GST, and from $1,000 the customer’s name or ABN.

When do I need to give one?

Within 28 days of a customer asking for one, or of you finding out about the change.

Is my information uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser. Your business details are remembered on this device only, so the next document is quicker, and you can clear them at any time.

Is this tax advice?

No. It makes the document; it doesn’t give tax advice. For anything unusual, check with your accountant or the ATO.
